Guntz Farm

Fri Aug 21, 2009

The Guntz Farm, located in the Manatawny Watershed, was able to restore approximately 1,350 feet of eroded streambank through the efforts of the Berks County Conservancy.

Over 150 tons of boulders were used to stabilize the eroded banks, and seeded with native streambank rye seed to minimize additional erosion issues.  The exsting indigenous vegetation was supplemented by the planting of an additional 15 native trees.  More work is scheduled for this project for the fall of 2009 and through Summer 2010.

Grant applications for installation of a upgraded barnyard were recently awarded from the Schuylkill River Heritage Area from the Schuylkill Restoration Fund.  A manure storage facility project is also under review by the Natural Resouces Conservation Service (USDA).
